Marc Marquez delivered a masterclass at the 2025 Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix, securing a sensational victory despite a dramatic lap one collision with his brother Alex Marquez. The incident left Marc’s factory Ducati with rear aero damage, yet he managed to fight back and take the chequered flag, completing a perfect weekend with pole position, Sprint win, and the main race victory.
The race began with Marc seizing the holeshot, but a Turn 1 clash with Alex Marquez opened the door for VR46 Ducati’s Franco Morbidelli to snatch the early lead. Morbidelli led the race for ten laps, building a significant gap while Marc, Pecco Bagnaia, and Maverick Vinales engaged in a fierce chase.
Bagnaia, starting from 11th, surged into contention and briefly overtook his teammate Marc for second, only to be re-passed shortly after. Meanwhile, Vinales, on his Tech3 KTM, passed both Ducati riders and Morbidelli to take the lead on lap 11.
However, Vinales made a small mistake on lap 16, allowing Marc Marquez to reclaim the lead. From there, Marc controlled the race, crossing the line 1.8s ahead of Vinales—who now awaits a tyre pressure investigation that could drop him out of the podium with a 16-second penalty.
Bagnaia held on to third, fading slightly in the closing stages, and is now 30 points behind Marc in the standings. Morbidelli came home fourth ahead of a charging Johann Zarco, with Fermin Aldeguer in sixth.
Alex Marquez, penalized with a long lap after a collision with Fabio Di Giannantonio, finished seventh—ending his perfect podium record for 2025. Fabio Quartararo dropped from a front-row start to eighth, with Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi completing the top ten.
The race saw several incidents, including Jorge Martin’s heavy crash on lap 14, and DNFs from Jack Miller, Augusto Fernandez, and Joan Mir.
With this win, Marc Marquez extends his championship lead to 18 points over Alex Marquez.
