LeBron James Ends 20-Year All-Star Game Streak

For the first time in his career, LeBron James will miss the NBA All-Star Game despite being selected, bringing an end to his record 20-year streak of consecutive starts. The Los Angeles Lakers star announced his withdrawal just 90 minutes before tipoff, citing foot and ankle discomfort—issues he has managed for several seasons.

James was set to play for “Shaq’s OGs,” the team drafted by Shaquille O’Neal for the All-Star competition. Since making his All-Star debut in 2005, he has been selected every year and holds the record for the most appearances. His absence marks a significant moment in NBA history, as he has been a consistent presence in the league’s midseason showcase for two decades.

Despite missing the game, James emphasized that he will not be taking time off. He plans to return to Los Angeles on Sunday night and immediately resume rehab on Monday. His focus is on being ready for the Lakers’ post-All-Star break opener against Charlotte on Wednesday, a game that had to be rescheduled due to recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

“I hope to be available on Wednesday,” James said, signaling his commitment to getting back on the court as soon as possible.
