Arsenal’s Tomiyasu Undergoes Knee Surgery, Faces Extended Layoff

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has undergone surgery on his right knee, making him the latest Gunners player to go under the knife. The 26-year-old confirmed the procedure on Instagram but did not provide a specific timeline for his return. However, reports suggest he could miss the rest of the season.

Tomiyasu’s injury woes have severely limited his playing time this campaign, with his only appearance lasting just six minutes as a substitute against Southampton in October. This follows a strong 2022-23 season where he featured in 30 matches.

His surgery marks the third for an Arsenal player in the past month, following similar procedures for Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Despite the setback, Tomiyasu remains determined, stating, “It has been the toughest period in my career for sure, but I won’t give up.”

Arsenal, currently seven points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, will face West Ham United this Saturday as they continue their title chase.
