Liverpool’s Slot Stays Grounded Despite 13-Point Lead in Premier League

Liverpool may have taken a commanding 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League with their 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, but manager Arne Slot remains cautious, insisting the title race is far from over.

Speaking after the win at Anfield, Slot emphasized that his team is focusing on their upcoming fixtures rather than celebrating prematurely.

“It’s still a long way to go, 10 games, and we have the (League Cup) final and two very important games against Paris St Germain,” Slot said. “We’re not focused on the long term.”

Liverpool, who topped the Champions League league phase, will face PSG in the first leg of their last-16 tie next Wednesday. Despite their remarkable consistency—undefeated in 27 of their 28 league matches and winning 32 of 43 games across all competitions—Slot is keeping his squad focused on the challenges ahead.

Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai echoed his manager’s sentiments, stating that while the team is happy with their lead, they must stay focused.

“After mathematically they (Arsenal) do not have any chance to get us,” Szoboszlai said. “We are looking forward to staying at the top of the table.”

Liverpool also has a League Cup final against Newcastle on March 16, adding to their packed schedule.

“When I came to Liverpool, I wanted to win everything in my first season,” Szoboszlai added. “But first, we have a Champions League game to prepare for, then a Premier League game, and then the final.”

With multiple trophies still within reach, Liverpool is determined to take it one game at a time.
