Arsenal’s Title Hopes Fade Further After Draw at Old Trafford

Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes took another hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Declan Rice’s late goal secured a point for the Gunners after Bruno Fernandes had given United the lead with a stunning free-kick in first-half stoppage time.

Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to break down United’s defense, missing key attacking players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli. Manchester United, who have now won just six of their 16 league games under Ruben Amorim, had several chances to take all three points but failed to capitalize in the closing stages.

With the draw, Arsenal now sit 15 points behind Liverpool with only one game in hand, making their title challenge increasingly unlikely. Manager Mikel Arteta expressed frustration over his team’s defensive lapses, saying they gave United opportunities they should not have. Meanwhile, United remain in 14th place as Amorim continues to struggle in his attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around. The atmosphere at Old Trafford reflected the discontent among the home fans, many of whom staged a protest by wearing black to symbolize what they described as “the death of their club.”

Bruno Fernandes’ opener raised questions about Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, but the Spanish shot-stopper redeemed himself with key saves in the second half to keep his team in the game. United had further chances to secure the win, including a crucial opportunity for Rasmus Hojlund, but Rice’s well-placed shot from a Jurrien Timber assist ensured Arsenal at least came away with a point.

The result does little to help Arsenal’s title challenge, with their focus now shifting towards securing a top-four finish. They remain second in the table, four points ahead of third-placed Nottingham Forest and eight clear of Manchester City in fifth. For United, the draw leaves them still searching for consistency in a season that has been filled with frustration and underperformance.
