Bucks Owner and NBA Veteran Junior Bridgeman Passes Away at 71

Junior Bridgeman, a former NBA star turned successful businessman and part-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 71. His death was announced by Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, who described Bridgeman as a “kind, generous, and groundbreaking legend” known for his community support and philanthropic efforts.

Bridgeman, who led the University of Louisville to a Final Four, was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975 before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in the blockbuster deal that sent Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Los Angeles. He played 12 seasons in the NBA, including 10 with the Bucks, where he still ranks among the franchise leaders in games played, field goals, and total points. His No. 2 jersey was retired by the Bucks in 1988.

Following his basketball career, Bridgeman became a highly successful entrepreneur, building a business empire across the restaurant and media industries. In 2023, he returned to the Bucks as a minority owner, fulfilling what he described as a lifelong dream.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver praised Bridgeman for his class and dignity, noting his lasting impact on the league both as a player and as a business leader.

Bridgeman is survived by his wife, Doris, and their three children, Eden, Justin, and Ryan.
