Jorge Martin’s Aprilia Replacement “Not 100%” Ahead of COTA MotoGP Return

Lorenzo Savadori, standing in for the injured Jorge Martin at Aprilia, admits he is “not 100%” fit ahead of the Americas Grand Prix following a shoulder injury sustained during the Argentina GP. With reigning world champion Jorge Martin sidelined indefinitely due to a fractured wrist from a pre-season training incident, Aprilia has turned to test rider Savadori to fill the gap. However, the 31-year-old’s participation has been hampered by a partial shoulder dislocation suffered during qualifying in Argentina, which forced him to withdraw from the sprint race.

Aprilia chose to rest Savadori for the main grand prix to aid his recovery, especially as Martin confirmed he would also miss the COTA race. Despite the break, Savadori acknowledges he is still not fully fit as he prepares for his debut at the challenging Austin circuit. He admitted that Austin’s physically demanding layout will be a test for his recovery but remains committed to contributing to the development of the RS-GP25 and giving his best effort on track.

Aprilia heads into the Americas GP with added pressure after Maverick Viñales’ victory at the circuit last season—Ducati’s only grand prix defeat throughout the entire 2024 campaign. This historical win raises expectations for the team despite the absence of their star rider, Jorge Martin. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi’s promising start to his debut factory Aprilia season was disrupted by a Turn 1 collision with Fabio Quartararo in Argentina, which forced him to retire on the spot. The Italian received an official warning for the incident, as it was his first offence.

Bezzecchi remains eager to bounce back in Austin and is determined to make up for his disappointing Argentina result. He acknowledges the physical challenge of the Circuit of the Americas but is motivated to continue building chemistry with his new team. With Savadori still recovering and Martin’s return date uncertain, Aprilia faces a crucial weekend in Texas as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the 2025 MotoGP season.
