Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali has offered an insightful explanation for Marc Marquez’s crash during the Spanish MotoGP, echoing Marquez’s own remarks.
The six-time MotoGP champion fell on Lap 3 at Jerez, later admitting he was a victim of “too much confidence.” Domenicali agreed, saying:
“Marc is extraordinary, he is riding very well. Every now and then he makes a few small mistakes due to overconfidence. However, he is showing that he has the bike in hand.”
Despite rejoining the race with a damaged bike, Marquez could only salvage 12th place, falling a point behind his brother Alex Marquez, who now leads the championship standings.
Reflecting on the crash, Marc explained:
“It was the first crash of the season in a left corner. I believed in myself and said, ‘OK, I will stay on the line.’ But it was not possible.”
Meanwhile, Ducati celebrated a landmark 22nd consecutive win with Alex Marquez’s triumph, equalling Honda’s all-time record. They will aim to break that record next weekend at Le Mans.
Pecco Bagnaia, who finished on the podium in Jerez, continues to trail the Marquez brothers and faces challenges adapting to his bike this season.
“Unfortunately the bike didn’t give him the feeling he would like to make overtakes as he got used to last year,” Domenicali added. “They are working to resolve the situation.”
