Alex Marquez shattered the lap record at Silverstone to top Friday Practice for the 2025 British Grand Prix, while elder brother and championship leader Marc Marquez suffered an early crash but still finished fourth.
Riding for Gresini Ducati, Alex clocked a stunning 1m57.295s on his final lap, edging out Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo by just 0.047s. Jack Miller bounced back from an early crash to take third on the Pramac Yamaha.
Marc Marquez, tipped pre-weekend to struggle slightly more at Silverstone compared to his brother, slid out early at Village Corner, but managed to recover to fourth, 0.360s off Alex’s pace.
Pecco Bagnaia had a tough session but pulled off a late push to secure seventh and a direct Q2 slot. VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio slotted in sixth, while Marco Bezzecchi led the early part of the session before ending fifth.
Surprise of the day: Yamaha had three riders in the top 10 for the first time since Valencia 2021, with Quartararo, Miller, and Alex Rins (9th) all making Q2.
Late heartbreak: Fermin Aldeguer snuck into 10th, knocking rookie Pedro Acosta out of the Q2 zone by a mere 0.044s.
Elsewhere, Franco Morbidelli finished 16th after a crash and is under investigation for impeding Bezzecchi at Maggotts. Trackhouse Racing’s Ai Ogura completed just one lap before retiring due to lingering pain from an FP1 incident.
