Fabio Quartararo set the pace in a red-flagged final practice session at the 2025 British MotoGP at Silverstone, narrowly edging out Marc Marquez for the top spot.
The session was interrupted early when Alex Marquez, Friday’s fastest rider, suffered a violent highside crash at Turn 15 (Stowe). Despite the dramatic launch from his Gresini Ducati, Alex escaped serious injury. However, his bike came to rest dangerously close to the racing line, prompting a red flag as marshals and mechanics assisted in clearing the area.
Conditions on Saturday morning were colder and more challenging compared to Friday’s dry and sunny sessions, with overnight rain creating low grip levels on the dry-but-slippery surface. That became evident when Pedro Acosta crashed on his out lap following the restart.
The remainder of the session ran smoothly. Quartararo, targeting a third consecutive pole, surged ahead of Marc Marquez in the final minutes. Alex Marquez impressively rebounded to claim third, followed by Maverick Vinales, who secured fourth for KTM after pushing Fermin Aldeguer down to fifth.
Francesco Bagnaia completed the top six, just ahead of Honda duo Luca Marini and Joan Mir.
Ai Ogura has withdrawn from the remainder of the weekend due to a leg injury sustained in Friday’s FP1 crash.
Qualifying 1 is up next, featuring riders who failed to make the top ten on Friday, including Pedro Acosta, Maverick Vinales, Joan Mir, and Brad Binder.
Franco Morbidelli has received a three-place grid penalty for obstructing Marco Bezzecchi during Friday’s practice.
Aleix Espargaro, winner at Silverstone in 2023, returns for his second wild-card appearance this season with HRC. Somkiat Chantra is back on track after arm pump surgery, while Lorenzo Savadori continues to fill in for injured world champion Jorge Martin at Aprilia.
Enea Bastianini, last year’s double race winner at Silverstone, will serve a long lap penalty during Sunday’s race following his collision with Bagnaia at the French Grand Prix.
