Marco Bezzecchi Shocks Silverstone with Victory After British GP Red Flag Drama

Marco Bezzecchi delivered a stunning win for Aprilia in a dramatic and chaotic 2025 British MotoGP Grand Prix at Silverstone, marking his first victory since the 2023 Indian GP.

The race began in turmoil as a collision between Franco Morbidelli and wild-card Aleix Espargaro left oil on the track at Vale, prompting a red flag. Before the stoppage, Alex Marquez crashed at Turn 1 while taking the lead, and Marc Marquez fell at Turn 10 shortly after.

Since the red flag was shown before three full laps had been completed, both Marquez brothers were allowed to restart the race, now shortened to 19 laps.

Polesitter Fabio Quartararo led confidently on his Yamaha for over half the race, building a lead of more than four seconds. However, his bid for victory ended abruptly on lap 12 due to a mechanical issue with his rear ride height device, forcing him to retire.

Bezzecchi, who had climbed through the field after gambling on a soft front tyre, inherited the lead and maintained control to the finish. He crossed the line 4.088 seconds ahead of Johann Zarco, who added a second-place result to his Le Mans win for LCR Honda.

Marc Marquez salvaged third after an intense late-race battle with Morbidelli. The two swapped positions several times through the final corners, with Marquez narrowly reclaiming third at the final turn by just 0.017s.

Alex Marquez took fifth, with Pedro Acosta finishing sixth for KTM. Jack Miller, who had briefly run second early in the race, settled for seventh ahead of Luca Marini, who is under investigation for a tyre pressure violation. Fermin Aldeguer and Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded out the top ten.

Pecco Bagnaia, who briefly led into Turn 1 at the restart, crashed out at Luffield for his second consecutive DNF. He and Marc Marquez had also both run wide at Copse during an earlier podium battle. The reigning champion now trails Marquez by 72 points in the standings.

Brad Binder was penalised on the final lap, dropping from 14th to 15th for exceeding track limits.
