Marc Marquez overcame a sluggish start and fierce competition to claim a dramatic home Sprint victory at the 2025 Aragon MotoGP, beating his younger brother Alex Marquez in a thrilling duel.
The eight-time world champion, who had been fastest all weekend and started from pole, briefly shocked the paddock by arriving on the grid with a medium rear tyre—but ultimately switched to soft, joining the majority of the field. A handful of riders including Fermin Aldeguer, Miguel Oliveira, Jack Miller, and Fabio di Giannantonio stuck with the medium, a likely choice for Sunday’s full-length race.
Marquez’s launch from pole was far from ideal, as he dropped to fourth after slight contact with Pedro Acosta in Turn 1. But Marc quickly regrouped, diving past Acosta on the exit and overtaking Franco Morbidelli for second on lap two. He then bided his time before making the race-winning move on Alex at Turn 1 on lap six.
Behind the Marquez brothers, Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer made a stunning charge on the medium rear tyre, hunting down Morbidelli and taking the final podium spot with four laps to go.
Morbidelli held off a last-lap attack from Acosta to finish fourth, while KTM’s Acosta settled for fifth after a promising early run.
It was a tough race for Francesco Bagnaia, who faded from fourth to 13th after running wide and only managed to recover one position by the finish.
Drama unfolded early when Joan Mir and Jack Miller collided on lap two, sending the HRC rider to the ground and earning the Pramac rider a long-lap penalty.
Starting from a disappointing 20th after qualifying woes, Marco Bezzecchi made up ground to finish eighth for Aprilia.
Luca Marini (HRC) and rookie Ai Ogura remain out due to injury and have not been replaced. Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez makes his wild-card debut this weekend, while Aprilia tester Lorenzo Savadori continues to substitute for reigning champion Jorge Martin.
