Jack Grealish Omitted from Man City’s Club World Cup Squad Amid Uncertain Future

Jack Grealish’s future at Manchester City appears increasingly uncertain after he was left out of Pep Guardiola’s 27-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins on June 14.

Despite the option to name up to 35 players, both Grealish and former captain Kyle Walker were notable omissions. Meanwhile, all four of City’s new signings – Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli – have been included in the squad.

Ballon d’Or winner Rodri also makes the list following his recent return from a long-term knee injury.

Grealish, still City’s record signing following his £100 million transfer from Aston Villa in 2021, has seen his role diminish over the past two seasons. He managed only seven Premier League starts during the 2024/25 campaign and was left unused in the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.

With two years remaining on his current deal and earning a reported £300,000 per week, his high wages could complicate any potential transfer away from the club.

Manager Pep Guardiola has previously warned that he may consider leaving if the squad size is not reduced ahead of the new season, with Grealish and Walker expected to be among several departures.

Walker, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at AC Milan, has not been retained by the Italian club.

Manchester City kick off their Club World Cup journey against Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia next Wednesday, followed by group matches against Al Ain and Juventus.
