Alex Marquez has begun his road to recovery after undergoing surgery for a broken hand sustained during the Dutch MotoGP at Assen.
The Gresini Ducati rider suffered the injury following a high-speed crash involving Pedro Acosta. Contact with his front brake lever caused a violent fall on the back straight. Marquez was quickly diagnosed with a fracture and underwent successful surgery.
“Great news from my first post-surgery check-up,” he shared on social media. “Recovery begins.”
While it’s uncertain if he will be fit to race at the upcoming German Grand Prix at Sachsenring — one of the most physically demanding circuits on the calendar — a possible appearance for a medical assessment on Friday hasn’t been ruled out. If not, the Czech GP at Brno (July 18–20) could be his realistic return target before the summer break.
Despite the setback, Alex remains second in the championship standings, trailing only his brother Marc Marquez by 68 points. Notably, he holds a 58-point advantage over defending champion Pecco Bagnaia, despite riding older Ducati machinery — a performance that has earned him widespread praise in 2025.
