MotoGP: Ducati shuts door on Alex Marquez’s factory team hopes

The dream of the Marquez brothers racing side by side in Ducati red looks officially over. While Marc Marquez now rides for the Ducati factory team on the cutting-edge GP25, Alex Marquez remains with Gresini on a GP24 – and despite outperforming expectations, the younger Marquez won’t be making the leap anytime soon.

Alex has shown more consistency than Pecco Bagnaia and even outperformed his brother Marc in a few battles this season. But insiders like Michael Laverty and Neil Hodgson believe Ducati won’t consider Alex for a factory seat. Why? Simple — he’s not the future.

“Of course part of him dreams of being Marc’s teammate in red,” said Laverty. “But is it realistic to replace an Italian champion in an Italian team? Not at all.” Hodgson echoed that sentiment, saying Ducati is more likely to invest in youth than sign a 31-year-old like Alex.

Ducati’s focus is already shifting to Fermin Aldeguer, the 20-year-old rookie showing strong results on the GP24. He’s already grabbed a podium and is clearly on Ducati’s radar as a future factory rider.

Even though riders like Bagnaia and Di Giannantonio are struggling to unlock the GP25’s potential, Ducati’s loyalty to their current champion and vision for the future is clear. The red carpet isn’t rolling out for Alex — and probably never will.
