Dorna Open to MotoGP and F1 Joint Event, But Cautions on Fan Expectations

Dorna Sporting Director Carlos Ezpeleta says a joint MotoGP and Formula 1 event is “worth trying once,” especially as Liberty Media now owns both racing series. However, he emphasized the importance of listening to fans and recognizing the logistical and demographic challenges such a crossover would involve.

The idea of hosting F1 and MotoGP on the same race weekend has circulated for years, and with Liberty Media’s recent acquisition of MotoGP approved by the EU, speculation has increased.

Speaking to Speedweek, Ezpeleta didn’t rule out the possibility, stating it could be a way to introduce MotoGP to a new audience. He acknowledged, though, that venue capacity, infrastructure requirements like air fences, and differing fan demographics could complicate the idea.

He also underlined that both championships should retain their authenticity, noting that growth potential still exists in various markets, but changes must align with fan expectations.
