Alex Marquez endured his toughest MotoGP Sunday of 2025 at Balaton Park, salvaging just two points in 14th after an early crash in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Starting 14th due to an 11th-place qualifying result and a three-place grid penalty, the Gresini Ducati rider made quick progress to 12th on the opening lap. But at Turn 1 on lap two, he went down, remounted, and limped home to his worst grand prix finish of the season.
The result followed an eighth-place finish in Saturday’s Sprint and left Marquez — who sits second in the riders’ standings — frustrated with both his pace and performance.
“A weekend to forget,” Marquez admitted. “We didn’t have the speed all weekend — not terrible, but not the level we’re used to. We struggled a lot. It’s true we had some setup issues, but also my riding style was not the best here, especially at this track.”
Despite the disappointment, the Spaniard urged calm and looked ahead to the next round in Barcelona.
“In Austria we were really fast, on the front row and fighting for the Sprint victory. So, we need to keep calm, not panic. Now we go to Catalunya, the best scenario to rebuild confidence and make a solid weekend, which is important for the championship.”
Marquez remains Marc Marquez’s closest rival in the title fight but saw the gap at the top widen significantly in Hungary.
