Inter Miami defender and former Spain international Jordi Alba has announced he will retire from football at the conclusion of the current Major League Soccer season.
Alba, who earned 93 caps for Spain between 2011 and 2023, was also a vital part of Barcelona’s golden era. In a statement on Instagram, he confirmed his decision:
“The moment has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life. I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season. I feel I’ve walked this path with every ounce of passion I had and now it’s the right time to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best possible feeling.”
Alba added that football has been and always will remain a central part of his life.
The attacking fullback joined Inter Miami in 2023, reuniting with Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets. Although initially expected to extend his contract through 2027, he has chosen to retire earlier.
His career highlights include six La Liga titles, a Champions League triumph with Barcelona, and being part of Spain’s victorious Euro 2012 squad.
