Ratcliffe: Amorim Will Get Full Three Years to Prove Himself at Man Utd

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pledged that head coach Ruben Amorim will be given the full three years of his contract to turn the club’s fortunes around, despite mounting pressure after a poor first season.

Amorim, appointed last November to replace Erik ten Hag, has overseen just 10 wins in 34 Premier League matches. United slumped to 15th place — their lowest top-flight finish since 1974 — and missed out on European football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

Ratcliffe, who controls United’s football operations, urged patience, drawing comparisons to Alex Ferguson’s rocky start at Old Trafford.
“I remember the clamouring for Alex Ferguson to be fired in his first two years… You look at Arteta at Arsenal. He had a miserable time early on. We’re results-driven, but we have to be patient and see through the results,” Ratcliffe told The TimesThe Business podcast.

He also ruled out any interference from the Glazer family, insisting Amorim’s position is safe:
“It absolutely wouldn’t happen. We’ve made errors along the way, but Ruben needs three years to show he’s a great coach.”

While results on the pitch have faltered, United posted record revenues of £666.5m in the year to June 2025, though with a £33m loss. Ratcliffe said the club is being restructured for long-term sustainability, with over £200m invested in new signings this summer and renewed focus on reviving the once-renowned academy system.

“Manchester United will become the most profitable football club in the world, in my view. From that, I hope, will stem a sustainable, high-level of football,” he added.
