Alex Marquez admitted that even a flawless season wouldn’t have been enough to dethrone his brother, Marc Marquez, from winning the 2025 MotoGP world title — though he considers racing against him “an honour.”
Throughout the 2025 campaign, Alex was Marc’s closest rival in the title race, earning two grand prix victories. However, Marc’s dominance was unshakable, with 11 grand prix wins and 14 sprint victories securing him a seventh world championship by round 17 of 22.
Alex’s own title hopes were hindered by key mistakes, including crashes at the Dutch and Czech Grands Prix. But he concedes that even without those errors, the result would have been the same.
“I think even if we did everything perfectly, it wouldn’t have been enough to fight Marc or win the title,” Alex said. “He’s breaking records in points and statistics — there’s no way to beat that. Losing to one of the greatest in history isn’t a loss; it’s an honour to battle with him.”
Alex Marquez currently holds a comfortable 88-point advantage over Pecco Bagnaia in the standings after finishing on the podium at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Gresini rider can clinch the runner-up spot in Australia if he finishes the round with a 111-point lead. He also secured the independent rider championship in Indonesia.
