Alex Marquez shares the valuable advice from Marc Marquez that guided him after securing second in the MotoGP championship standings

Alex Marquez sealed the runner-up position in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship with a commanding victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix, stepping up impressively in the absence of his brother and world champion, Marc Marquez.

Marc Marquez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following surgery to repair a broken right collarbone, sustained in a heavy collision with Marco Bezzecchi at Mandalika. With the champion sidelined, Alex emerged as one of the top contenders — and he delivered in style at Sepang.

Starting from second, the Gresini Ducati rider overtook Francesco Bagnaia early and never looked back, cruising to his third victory of the season. His win followed a strong performance in Saturday’s Sprint race, where he confirmed second place in the championship standings.

Marc Marquez, watching from home, praised his younger brother’s performance as the two achieved a historic 1-2 finish in the 2025 standings — a first in MotoGP history.

Before this season, Alex had never finished higher than eighth in the championship. His consistent form throughout 2025 has seen him outperform factory Ducati riders, surpassing all expectations.

Speaking to Motosan, Alex revealed that Marc’s advice played a big role in helping him handle the pressure:
“It was in Japan, I think, when he told me: ‘Everyone is putting pressure on you, but what you’re doing isn’t normal for someone in your position. Try to enjoy it, and if you finish third or fourth, don’t see it as a failure — take it as a learning experience.’ That helped me a lot.”
