Alex Marquez Describes Sepang Victory as a “Near Perfect Race”

BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider Alex Marquez said his triumph at the 2025 Malaysian Grand Prix was a “near perfect race,” achieved after overcoming a challenging start to the weekend at the Sepang International Circuit.

Starting second on the grid, the Spaniard overtook Ducati Lenovo’s Francesco Bagnaia on lap two and steadily built a commanding lead to take his third win of the season.

Marquez admitted that early crashes during Friday’s practice sessions nearly disrupted his rhythm and confidence.
“I made a mistake this weekend, expecting things to be too easy,” he said. “Crashing in Free Practice 1 and again later made it complicated, but we managed to turn things around. Today, the plan was clear — I improved the feeling in warm-up, attacked Pecco early, and focused on managing the tyres until the end.”

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pedro Acosta finished second, describing the race as physically demanding but rewarding, while Honda HRC’s Joan Mir completed the podium after what he called one of the toughest races of his career due to the heat and tyre wear.

The victory strengthens Alex’s runner-up position in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship with 413 points, behind his injured brother and world champion Marc Marquez (545 points). Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi sits third with 291 points, followed by Bagnaia (286), Acosta (260), and Mir (93).

Two rounds remain in the 2025 season — the Portuguese GP (Nov 7–9) at Algarve International Circuit and the Valencia GP (Nov 14–16) at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
