Aprilia has officially confirmed that reigning 2024 MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin will sit out the upcoming Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.
Martin sustained a displaced shoulder fracture during a Turn 1 collision with team-mate Marco Bezzecchi at the Japanese Grand Prix sprint race in Motegi. The injury required surgery and has sidelined him ever since.
Although the Spaniard has resumed light training, Aprilia stated that he will not race in Portugal to prioritise his full recovery. It remains unclear whether he will return for the season finale in Valencia or the post-race test. Test rider Lorenzo Savadori, who has filled in for Martin in recent rounds, is expected to continue as his replacement.
The 2024 world champion has endured a difficult 2025 season, completing only six of the 20 rounds so far, with his best finish being fourth at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Martin joins fellow world champion Marc Marquez on the sidelines, with the Ducati rider also ruled out for the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury sustained in Indonesia.
