Alex Marquez lived up to expectations at the Malaysian Grand Prix, but his weekend wasn’t without challenges. Despite being tipped as the favorite, his journey to victory was marked by resilience and maturity — a fitting reflection of his growth as a MotoGP rider.
Often living under the shadow of his legendary brother Marc, Alex has faced immense pressure since his debut. Yet, his rise has been built not on his surname, but on undeniable talent and hard work. From his Moto2 and Moto3 world titles to carrying Honda’s hopes in his rookie year when Marc was injured, Alex has consistently proven his worth.
After enduring tough seasons with LCR Honda, his move to Gresini Ducati reignited his career. A series of sprint victories in 2023 hinted at his true potential — potential he has now fulfilled in 2025. Following wins in Spain and Catalonia, Alex produced a dominant ride in Malaysia, sealing his third victory of the season and securing second in the world championship behind his brother.
“This journey in MotoGP was never easy. In 2023, I was almost at home without a ride, but luck and hard work gave me a chance at Gresini,” Alex shared. “I’m first of the losers, but the winner is my brother, so it’s a special feeling.”
In Sepang, Alex overcame early crashes in practice and a drop in confidence, admitting his expectations were too high heading into the weekend. “The track was different from February testing, and I made mistakes early on,” he said. “But the team gave me a perfect bike to win.”
His flawless execution in Sunday’s race — taking early control and maintaining a strong pace to finish over two seconds clear of Pedro Acosta — showcased his evolution as a top-tier rider. “My plan was clear: overtake early, control the race, and manage the rear tyre,” Alex explained. “I stuck to it perfectly.”
With this commanding performance, Alex Marquez not only silenced his critics but also solidified his status as one of MotoGP’s most deserving stars.
