Pedro Acosta says 2027 MotoGP move “will be a lottery” amid regulation shake-up

KTM rider Pedro Acosta believes deciding his next MotoGP contract for the 2027 season “will be a lottery” due to the major technical changes coming to the championship.

All factory team contracts will expire at the end of 2026, setting up one of the most unpredictable rider markets in years — just as MotoGP introduces 850cc engines and Pirelli as the new sole tyre supplier.

Acosta, already linked with potential moves to VR46 Ducati and Honda, admitted that the uncertainty surrounding the new regulations will make 2027 decisions difficult.

“I think it will be a lottery, if I’m honest,” said the 21-year-old. “For sure, the one who makes a bet for 2027 will have a 50/50 chance — 50% to win, and 50% to lose.”

Reflecting on KTM’s mixed 2025 campaign, Acosta said he has learned to stay calm despite the team’s early struggles:
“I know I’m taking 100% out of the package we have. If it’s not in my hands, I can’t get angry. KTM knows we need to make a step if we want to fight for something.”

With winter testing and the early 2026 rounds likely to shape the 2027 rider market, Acosta says he’s focused on performance, not politics.
“I have a good team around me to manage these things. I don’t really have to care about it,” he added.
