Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez produced a superb ride to claim his second MotoGP Sprint victory of the 2025 season at Portimao, narrowly fending off rookie sensation Pedro Acosta in a thrilling duel.
Starting third on the grid, Marquez battled early with pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi and Acosta, with the trio quickly breaking away from the rest of the field. After Bezzecchi’s early lead, Acosta took charge on Lap 2 before Marquez launched a series of decisive moves in the closing stages.
Marquez’s superior pace in the final sector proved key, as he reclaimed the lead on Lap 9 and managed to resist a late push from Acosta, crossing the line just 0.1s ahead.
Acosta’s runner-up finish equaled his best MotoGP result to date, while Bezzecchi continued Aprilia’s strong form with another podium in third.
Fabio Quartararo impressed in fourth on the Yamaha, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio. Fermin Aldeguer and Johann Zarco completed the top seven, both overtaking Francesco Bagnaia in the final laps as the two-time champion settled for eighth.
Brad Binder and Pol Espargaro rounded out the top ten, while Ai Ogura took 11th for Trackhouse ahead of Luca Marini and Enea Bastianini.
