Joao Neves’ dramatic 95th-minute winner fired Paris Saint-Germain back to the top of Ligue 1 with a 3-2 victory over Lyon on Sunday, while Emanuel Emegha struck twice to lift Strasbourg past Lille.
PSG had briefly lost first place to Marseille, who beat Brest 3-0 on Saturday, but reclaimed the summit thanks to Neves’ stoppage-time header at the Groupama Stadium. The reigning champions now lead the table by two points on 27, with Marseille sitting second.
“Resilience is a word I like,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique. “We showed the right mentality to win this match. It’s important because in adversity, we win, and we are first in Ligue 1.”
The win provided a timely boost after PSG’s midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.
Warren Zaire-Emery opened the scoring on 26 minutes with a thunderous strike, before Afonso Moreira equalised for Lyon shortly after. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia restored PSG’s lead in controversial fashion, with VAR allowing the goal despite Lyon’s protests over a challenge in the buildup.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles levelled for Lyon early in the second half with a sublime lob, but the hosts’ hopes were dashed when Nicolas Tagliafico was sent off late on. From the resulting corner, Neves rose highest to head home the winner and send PSG back to the top.
Meanwhile, Strasbourg enjoyed a successful night as Emanuel Emegha’s brace earned them a 2-0 win over Lille. Returning from injury, the Dutch striker struck on either side of half-time, capitalising on a defensive error from Olivier Giroud to seal all three points.
Lille, now fifth in the table, suffered their fourth defeat of the season and trail Strasbourg — who move up to fourth on 22 points — by two.
Elsewhere, Lorient and Toulouse drew 1-1 with both sides scoring from the spot, Metz defeated Nice 2-1, and bottom-side Auxerre lost 2-0 away to Angers.
