Double MotoGP world champion Pecco Bagnaia has urged for greater unity between riders and Dorna Sports, saying collaboration is essential for the championship’s future growth.
The debate over a formal riders’ union resurfaced after the serious Moto3 incident in Malaysia involving Noah Dettwiler and José Antonio Rueda. Bagnaia was one of the most outspoken riders, criticising the decision to continue with the race program and expressing frustration when it later emerged both riders had suffered cardiac arrests despite official graphics showing them as conscious.
Speaking at the Valencia GP, Bagnaia admitted that forming a union is difficult, but said the need for alignment between riders and organisers has never been more important.
“Everyone has a different point of view, and decisions in those moments are very difficult,” he said.
“Dorna tries to manage things in the best way for the show and for the riders — but not every time both things go in the same direction.”
Bagnaia stressed that MotoGP is facing a rapidly changing environment, and unity is key to helping the sport “continue growing”.
Although MotoGP riders do not have an official union, independent teams (IRTA) and manufacturers (MSMA) do have formal associations.
