Marc Marquez Reveals Crucial Talks With Alex: “We Cannot Compete Like This”

Marc Marquez says a key post-race conversation with his brother Alex helped strengthen their relationship during a historic 2025 MotoGP season.

Marc, who clinched his seventh premier-class title and ninth world championship overall, quickly realised after the Thailand Grand Prix that Alex would be one of his main rivals. Alex delivered his best season yet with three grand prix wins, two Sprint victories and second place in the championship.

Their first major fight came in Thailand, where Marc was forced to let Alex through mid-race to raise his front-tyre pressure. But Alex’s pace — and the intensity of their battle — made Marc rethink how they should race each other.

“I already understood after Thailand that Alex would be super fast all season,” Marc told MotoGP.com.
“I was thinking on the bike: ‘Where can I overtake him without making a mistake?’
When I got home, I said, ‘We cannot compete like this.’”

Marc explained to Alex that while they are brothers, racing carries risks — and they needed to accept that without creating tension.

“We had two options: fight and create problems, or be closer than ever. We chose to be closer,” Marc said.
“We helped each other all year, and we did something amazing in MotoGP history.”
