Marc Marquez crew chief warns rivals: Ducati star still has more in reserve

Marc Marquez’s Ducati MotoGP crew chief Marco Rigamonti believes the six-time champion did not always need to push to his absolute limit during his dominant 2025 season, and warned that there may still be more performance to unlock.

Marquez swept the 2025 campaign with 11 grand prix wins and 14 sprint victories, securing his seventh MotoGP world title with five rounds remaining. A run of seven consecutive maximum-score weekends between Aragon and Hungary underlined his control over the field.

Speaking to Marca, Rigamonti revealed that Marquez himself admitted he was not always riding at full intensity.

Rigamonti explained that there were races where Marquez only pushed hard for a short phase to open a gap, before managing the pace to the finish. He added that while Marquez was capable of pushing at 100 percent, doing so constantly could increase the risk of crashes.

He pointed to races like Misano, where Marquez rode flat out for the entire distance, as proof that the Spaniard can still raise his level when required. Rigamonti suggested that if Marquez were forced to push at maximum intensity every race, the outcome could be very different in terms of consistency and risk.

The Ducati crew chief also highlighted Marquez’s unique ability to operate on the edge, noting that what truly sets him apart is his capacity to save crashes in situations where most riders would already be on the ground. This trait, he said, often defies conventional data analysis and makes it difficult to define Marquez’s true limit.

Rigamonti concluded that while Marquez already dominates the grid, he believes the Ducati rider still has untapped potential, even if it remains unclear exactly where that final limit lies.
