Alex Marquez’s standout 2025 MotoGP campaign should not be seen as an unexpected success, according to Ducati Lenovo Team manager Davide Tardozzi.
Before the 2025 season, Marquez had collected just five premier-class podiums since entering MotoGP in 2020 and had yet to win a race. That changed dramatically last year, as he claimed three grand prix victories and finished runner-up in the championship.
Tardozzi believes Marquez’s background already pointed to this level of performance. As a two-time world champion in the lower categories, his rise to the front of MotoGP was only a matter of time. Ducati also credits the Gresini Racing environment for helping unlock that potential, highlighting the team’s strong culture, experienced personnel and consistent ability to deliver winning riders.
Marquez was not the only Gresini rider to impress in 2025. Rookie Fermin Aldeguer also made a strong impact, scoring six podium finishes including sprint races in his debut MotoGP season and ending the year eighth overall.
Ducati had committed to Aldeguer early, signing him to its MotoGP programme back in early 2024 after his dominant run at the end of the 2023 Moto2 season. Despite a quieter Moto2 campaign in 2024, Aldeguer exceeded expectations in the premier class.
According to Tardozzi, while Ducati always believed in Aldeguer’s talent, his immediate competitiveness in MotoGP delivered even more than the factory anticipated.
