Aleix Espargaró Undergoes Six-Hour Surgery After Vertebrae Injuries in Sepang Test Crash

Honda MotoGP test rider Aleix Espargaró is on the road to recovery after undergoing major surgery to fuse four vertebrae following a testing crash.

The Spaniard suffered the injury during a private test at Sepang International Circuit earlier this month. Although four vertebrae were fractured, doctors confirmed the damage narrowly avoided affecting his spinal cord.

Details of the accident remain unclear, including whether Espargaró was riding Honda’s current 1000cc bike or an 850cc prototype at the time. After returning to Spain for further evaluation, medical specialists determined surgery was required.

In an update shared on social media, Espargaró revealed the procedure lasted more than six hours, with Dr. Fiol and his team successfully stabilizing his spine.
