Lewis Hamilton believes his maiden win for Ferrari is within reach after a remarkable turnaround in the 2026 Formula 1 season. The seven-time world champion, now 41, has bounced back from a challenging 2025 debut campaign that saw him miss the podium entirely and finish well behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Hamilton credits much of his resurgence to changes brought about by the 2026 regulations and the support of team boss Fred Vasseur. Unlike last year, Hamilton was involved in developing this season’s car and made key changes to his engineering team—moves that have paid off.
Now, after six rounds, Hamilton sits second in the championship, just behind Mercedes’ teen sensation Kimi Antonelli. He has posted consecutive runner-up finishes and holds a 15-point edge over Leclerc, reversing last season’s qualifying trend in his favor.
“It couldn’t be closer,” said Hamilton after the Monaco Grand Prix. “I’m really happy and thankful for where we are. Fred has been awesome, making changes I asked for, and now I’m finally able to deliver for the team.”
Hamilton is realistic about the title chase, acknowledging Mercedes’ dominance and Antonelli’s five-race win streak, but remains optimistic:
“It’s actually easier to chase than to defend. We’re going to keep pushing, and I have no doubt we’ll get there.”
A victory would be Hamilton’s first since the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix and would bring his legendary tally to 106 career wins. For now, he’s relishing the renewed energy within Ferrari and is determined to close the gap at the front, saying,
“After last year’s slump, it’s great to see the fight in the team again. We’ve got work to do, but we’re closing in.”
Hamilton’s resurgence has reignited hope among Ferrari fans that his long-awaited first win in red is just around the corner.
