England recover stolen equipment ahead of World Cup opener

England’s World Cup preparations remain on track after stolen equipment was recovered following a theft during the team’s journey to their tournament base in Kansas City.

The incident occurred when thieves targeted a transport vehicle carrying supplies during the squad’s 2,253-kilometre trip from their pre-tournament camp in Florida. The theft was only discovered after the team arrived at Swope Soccer Village.

Kansas City Police confirmed that two individuals have been taken into custody and that investigations are ongoing.

Despite initial concerns, sources close to the England camp stressed that preparations for the Group C opener against Croatia have not been disrupted.

“This will not affect us in any way. We remained focused on our goal,” a team source said.

Among the items reported stolen were spare boots, training gear, footballs, massage tables and coaching materials belonging to manager Thomas Tuchel. However, officials later clarified that the missing equipment consisted mainly of spare training items and footballs used for charity events, with no essential performance equipment affected.

There were early fears that personalised items belonging to captain Harry Kane, including boots bearing his initials and the names of his children, had been taken. Those concerns were later eased.

“It’ll take more than a kit heist and weather to put this team off their stride,” an insider said.

England arrived in Kansas City on a private charter flight and were escorted by a police motorcade to their hotel before holding their first open training session ahead of Monday’s clash with Croatia.

With most of the stolen equipment recovered and the squad fully focused on football, England’s World Cup preparations continue without major disruption.
