Football fans down under are in for a treat as Australia will host Brazil in a two-match friendly series, marking the Socceroos’ first home fixtures after the World Cup.
The Socceroos will take on Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded Brazilian squad in Townsville on September 25 and Brisbane on September 29. Coach Tony Popovic welcomed the challenge, saying, “Brazil are a world-class football nation, and we look forward to facing them in Australia. While our focus is on the World Cup right now, locking in fixtures of this calibre helps us keep testing ourselves against the best.”
Australia and Brazil have squared off 11 times since their first meeting in 1988, but the Socceroos have just one win and two draws against the five-time world champions.
The double-header is part of Queensland’s push to become Australia’s events capital as the region gears up for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Both sides are safely through to the last 32 at this year’s World Cup—Brazil will face Japan in Houston on June 29, while Australia meets Egypt in Dallas on July 3.
