Lakers to meet with Jalen Duren as Pistons contract talks remain at a standstill

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to meet with restricted free agent Jalen Duren as the standout center continues to explore his options amid an ongoing contract dispute with the Detroit Pistons.

The development comes after reports revealed Duren will also hold talks with the Sacramento Kings as part of a potential sign-and-trade move away from Detroit.

The Lakers have long been linked with Duren and are reportedly eager to strengthen their frontcourt, viewing the All-Star big man as an ideal long-term partner alongside Luka Doncic.

Negotiations between Duren and the Pistons have stalled, with the 22-year-old seeking a maximum contract while Detroit has yet to match his valuation.

Duren enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 campaign, earning his first NBA All-Star selection and an All-NBA Team nod after averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 70 games. He also led the Pistons in field-goal percentage at 65.0% and played a pivotal role in the franchise’s 60-win regular season.

However, his production dipped during the playoffs as Detroit’s postseason run ended in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Across 14 playoff appearances, Duren averaged 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds, falling short of his regular-season impact.

With contract talks showing little progress, the Lakers and Kings are among the teams looking to capitalize should Duren’s future ultimately lie away from Detroit.
