McLaren revives Bruce McLaren’s long-lost road car dream

Nearly 60 years after it was first envisioned, McLaren has finally brought the legendary M6GT to life, reviving the road car that founder Bruce McLaren had hoped would become the brand’s first production model.

Originally developed from the M6A Can-Am racer in the late 1960s, the M6GT never reached production after Bruce McLaren’s tragic death in 1970, leaving the project unfinished for more than five decades.

Now, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has meticulously recreated the original M6GT using original body moulds, archive reference materials, restored components and newly engineered one-off parts to stay true to Bruce’s vision.

The revived M6GT is powered by a period-correct V8 engine paired with a five-speed Hewland transaxle, delivering power to the rear wheels in authentic 1960s fashion.

The project brings one of McLaren’s greatest “what if” stories to life, finally completing the road car that could have become the marque’s very first production model.
