Marc Marquez secured a record-equalling 10th MotoGP victory at the Sachsenring, matching Giacomo Agostini’s long-standing premier class win tally at a single circuit. Yet, the reigning champion admitted he couldn’t be “100 per cent happy” after his brother Alex Marquez crashed out of second place.
“10 victories in one circuit in the MotoGP class is something amazing,” Marquez told MotoGP.com’s After the Flag. “Honestly speaking, not 100 per cent happy because I would like to see also Alex here, on the podium… I saw the way he worked after the Montmelo race and it was amazing.”
Alex’s misfortune took some shine off a dominant weekend for Marc, who praised his team’s work and his brother’s determination following his recent return from injury. Marc detailed his race strategy, explaining that an aggressive early pace put him on the edge with front tyre grip. “I pushed in the beginning, but then I saw the front tyre was on the limit… Then, when I understood the front, I re-attacked and opened the gap.”
The victory cements Marquez’s legendary status at the Sachsenring, but his focus was tempered by empathy for his brother’s setback. “When you take one-and-a-half seconds, two, it’s super-difficult to catch again,” he reflected, acknowledging both the triumph and the bittersweet family moment.
