Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has downplayed concerns over a potential injury to Jeremie Frimpong after the defender was substituted during the Reds’ 4-2 pre-season defeat to Leeds United in Chicago.
Frimpong, 25, asked to come off midway through the second half, raising fears of another setback for Liverpool, who are already dealing with injuries to Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike, and Giovanni Leoni. However, Iraola was optimistic post-match: “Jeremie asked for the sub but I don’t think it’s an injury. It was just some overload and I hope he’s not injured in that way. I don’t think we’ve lost anyone.”
Iraola, who took over in June, also highlighted the value of the match as Liverpool concluded their US tour: “It was probably the most useful friendly we played – in a positive way in the first half and in a negative way in the second half. We’ve learned a lot from today and I think we can take good conclusions and solve some things.”
Liverpool open their Premier League campaign away at Newcastle United on August 23.
