Fabio Di Giannantonio has revealed that the elbow injury he sustained during a heavy crash at the German Grand Prix was “a little bit more serious than expected.” The VR46 Ducati MotoGP rider fractured his elbow in a Sunday morning Sachsenring fall, compounding an earlier finger injury from his dramatic incident with Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta.
“Also, the elbow at the end was a little bit more serious than expected after the crash in Sachsenring in the morning; I had a little fracture there that I had to wait for some stitches,” Di Giannantonio explained ahead of the Silverstone weekend. “But yeah, you know, as I said, many things to recover and now I feel back in top form.”
He added that the lingering pain from the first crash affected his concentration in the main race, leading to a second fall: “I had some pain here and there in the body. So I was not honestly 100% focused, and that small mistake in the race ruined the whole race.”
Despite being 24 points off the championship lead, Di Giannantonio is eager to get back on track at Silverstone. “I’ve been missing MotoGP… I really don’t want to finish this season somehow, because I want to continue to ride this bike… We’ll try to fight for podium and the win.”
Di Giannantonio expects Aprilia to be strong but believes the Ducati package will allow him to challenge for top positions as the season resumes.
