MotoGP to Launch 2027 Season in Rio de Janeiro with Spectacular Botafogo Beach Event

MotoGP has announced that its 2027 season launch event will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking the third new location for the now-annual spectacle in as many years. Scheduled for 21 February 2027, the event will be held on the iconic Botafogo Beach beneath Sugarloaf Mountain.

After successful launches in Bangkok (2025) and Kuala Lumpur (2026), MotoGP had been linked with a Miami event for 2027 but ultimately opted for a South American stage, reflecting the enthusiastic response to the sport’s return to Brazil in Goiania this year.

“MotoGP Season Launch has become one of the defining moments of the year for our championship, bringing together every team, rider and manufacturer as we begin a new season,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, MotoGP Group CEO. “The enthusiasm shown by Brazilian fans during our sold-out return to Goiania in 2026 confirmed the extraordinary connection between MotoGP and Brazil. Rio de Janeiro provides the perfect stage to continue raising the bar.”

Rio’s mayor Eduardo Cavaliere echoed the excitement: “Rio de Janeiro is honoured to host the MotoGP 2027 Season Launch… Few cities can match Rio’s combination of natural beauty, sporting passion and globally recognised landmarks. This event will showcase the very best of Rio de Janeiro to millions of fans around the world.”

The launch event will set the stage for the 2027 MotoGP season, with the Thai Grand Prix on 5-7 March confirmed as the season opener. The full 2027 calendar and test dates are yet to be announced.

With world-class entertainment, iconic scenery, and a passionate fan base, Rio’s MotoGP Season Launch promises to be the most spectacular yet.
