Aston Martin land new investor as Hamilton’s Ferrari future nears resolution

Aston Martin have secured fresh investment ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, with US billionaire Robert “Woody” Johnson acquiring a minority stake in the Formula 1 team.

Johnson will also join Aston Martin’s board of directors as vice chairman, strengthening Lawrence Stroll’s ownership group as the team continues its long-term push towards the front of the grid.

The investment comes at an important time for Aston Martin, with Adrian Newey’s influence beginning to be felt and the team introducing aerodynamic upgrades at Zandvoort.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton’s future at Ferrari could soon be settled, with reports suggesting the seven-time world champion is closing in on a contract extension.

Hamilton has enjoyed a much stronger 2026 campaign after struggling during his first season with Ferrari in 2025. His improved performances have strengthened the case for him to remain with the Scuderia beyond his current deal.

The F1 driver market has already seen a major domino fall this week, with Max Verstappen committing his future to Red Bull until 2030.

With Verstappen staying put and Hamilton potentially next to extend, the picture for the 2027 F1 grid is beginning to take shape.
