BMW has officially signed Brad Binder for the 2027 WorldSBK season, where he will partner Miguel Oliveira in the factory team. The move reunites the former KTM MotoGP teammates for another high-profile campaign, with Oliveira’s contract extension confirmed just last week.
Binder makes the switch to WorldSBK after seven seasons with KTM’s MotoGP squad, a period highlighted by two race wins and a 2023 Sprint victory in Jerez. However, podiums have eluded the South African since the opening round of 2024, prompting a fresh challenge with BMW.
“We are delighted to welcome Brad [Binder] to the BMW Motorrad Motorsport family,” said Sven Blusch, BMW’s head of motorsport. “His absolute determination to start a new chapter in WorldSBK is impressive. With Brad and Miguel, two former teammates are reunited who complement each other perfectly. This combination has great potential.”
Binder’s arrival fills the seat vacated by Danilo Petrucci, who will leave BMW’s factory WorldSBK team but may remain connected to the brand through future projects. Blusch thanked Petrucci for his commitment and emphasized the team’s desire to end the current season strongly.
Binder becomes the second high-profile MotoGP rider to confirm a 2027 WorldSBK switch this week, following Jack Miller’s move to Pata Yamaha.
With Binder and Oliveira at the helm, BMW is set for a potent rider line-up as it targets world championship success in the coming Superbike season.
