Arvid Lindblad has issued a public apology to Racing Bulls team-mate Liam Lawson after the pair collided during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. While Lindblad finished a strong seventh, his race was overshadowed by an incident during a safety car restart, when a late-braking move saw him sandwiched between Lawson and Haas driver Esteban Ocon, ultimately making contact with his team-mate.
Lawson was sent into a spin and dropped out of the points, finishing 12th. Stewards reviewed the clash but decided against further action, citing the restricted space available to Lindblad at the time.
After the race, Lindblad took responsibility on social media: “Strong race today, really happy to bring it home in P7… Gutted about what happened with Liam – sorry mate. Glad we were still able to bring some points home for the team.” He also praised the team’s power unit, calling it a “rocketship.”
Lawson, speaking to Sky Sports F1, expressed his frustration: “I just got smoked from my left, put a hole in my floor as well… I just don’t understand it.”
Despite the incident, Lindblad’s points finish offered some consolation for Racing Bulls after a challenging weekend, but the intra-team collision is sure to be a talking point going forward.
