Achievements Unlocked: Historic Firsts and Records Mark BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2026

The 2026 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals in Horsens, Denmark, concluded with a series of remarkable achievements and milestones, making this edition one of the most memorable in team badminton history.

Uber Cup Milestones:

China’s Consistency: China extended its remarkable run, finishing among the medals for a record 22nd consecutive edition.

An Se Young’s Dominance: Korea’s An Se Young became the first player since Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in 2018 to win all six matches without dropping a game on the way to the title. She is also the second non-Chinese Olympic champion—after Indonesia’s Susi Susanti—to win two Uber Cup titles.

Longevity and Appearances: Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) and Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) both surpassed Susi Susanti for the most Uber Cup matches played, with 28 each. Alongside Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, Intanon has now appeared at more Uber Cups (8) than any other player in history.

Thomas Cup Highlights:

Shi Yu Qi’s Unbeaten Streak: China’s Shi Yu Qi remains unbeaten in 18 completed Thomas Cup matches, the longest active streak in men’s singles.

European Breakthrough: This was the first edition to feature two European semifinalists—Denmark and France. France also became only the third European nation to win a Thomas Cup medal, joining Denmark and England.

Alex Lanier’s Knockout Feat: France’s Alex Lanier became the first European since Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in 2016 to win all three knockout matches in straight games during a title run.

These achievements underscore the growing competitiveness and evolving history of the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, with players and teams setting new benchmarks and inspiring the next generation of badminton stars.
