Ai Ogura Targets Aragon MotoGP Return After Successful Leg Surgery

FIM World Championship Grand Prix, 22.-25. May 2025, MotoGP, Round 07, Silverstone, United Kingdom, Ai Ogura, Trackhouse MotoGP Team, Aprilia

Trackhouse Aprilia rookie Ai Ogura is aiming for a swift comeback at the upcoming Aragon Grand Prix following successful surgery on a leg fracture sustained at the British Grand Prix. The Japanese rider suffered a crash during FP1 at Silverstone, resulting in a fracture at the top of his right tibia.

Ogura attempted a single lap during Practice before withdrawing from the event. Subsequent examinations revealed the severity of the injury. Trackhouse confirmed that surgery has been completed successfully, and Ogura is now focusing on recovery.

“The surgery is done. I think everything went quite well and I feel pretty OK with my knee,” Ogura shared. “It’s difficult, but I’ll do what I can to recover. We’ll see if I can make it to Aragon.”

Despite the injury setback, Ogura has had an impressive rookie campaign on the satellite Aprilia, achieving a best result of fifth at the season opener in Thailand. Throughout the year, he has often been Aprilia’s top performer. However, he has slipped to 12th in the standings with 43 points, trailing fellow rookie Fermin Aldeguer by 13 points.

Trackhouse won’t need to find a replacement for Aragon if Ogura is declared unfit, but a longer recovery would pose challenges. Aprilia’s test rider Lorenzo Savadori is already standing in for the injured Jorge Martin at the factory team.
