Alex Marquez aims to decide MotoGP 2027 future before 2026 Thailand opener

Alex Marquez has confirmed that a decision on his MotoGP future for the 2027 season is approaching, with the Gresini Racing rider targeting clarity before the opening round of the 2026 championship in Thailand.

Since joining Gresini in 2023, the younger brother of Marc Marquez has shown steady progress, culminating in a runner-up finish in last season’s championship. That level of consistency has placed him firmly on the radar of several factory teams.

Marquez has been strongly linked with a potential move to a factory squad in 2027, including rumours of interest from KTM should Pedro Acosta depart for Ducati. While speculation continues, the Spaniard admits he already has several concrete options under consideration.

“I have several options,” Alex Marquez said. “The most solid offer is from Gresini, because I know the team, I know everything about it, and the emotional aspect, which is important for a rider, is also a perfect fit.”

He added that the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming regulations makes the rider market especially intense. “If I want to take a risk for one year, it would be next year, because nobody really knows which direction will be best. That’s why the market is going crazy and everyone wants top riders.”

Despite the interest, Marquez insists he is calm about the process and already has a clear understanding of his possibilities. He hopes to make a final call before the Thailand test, but is prepared to wait slightly longer if needed.

“I want my future to be certain before the first race,” he said. “Then I’ll be clear about what I’m going to do in 2027. I already have a pretty clear picture.”

For now, Marquez stressed that his main focus remains on preparing for the 2026 MotoGP season.
