The Gresini Ducati rider suffered a high-speed fall that briefly halted the session to repair the air fence but recovered to post a stunning 1:35.991s in the final moments—a new all-time lap record at the Spanish GP circuit.
Francesco Bagnaia pushed hard and ended just a tenth behind in second, while Franco Morbidelli grabbed third to secure a direct Q2 slot. Marc Marquez placed fourth, rounding out a strong day for the factory Ducati squad. Fabio Quartararo led the non-Ducati riders in fifth, with MotoGP rookie Fermin Aldeguer impressing in sixth for Gresini.
The rest of the Q2 qualifiers include Johann Zarco (Honda), Pedro Acosta (KTM), Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati), and Joan Mir (Honda). Brad Binder narrowly missed out in P11, while Marco Bezzecchi once again led Aprilia’s charge in 12th.
Further down, Jack Miller, Maverick Vinales, and a flu-stricken Alex Rins occupied mid-pack spots, while Honda’s Luca Marini and Ducati’s Enea Bastianini struggled. Test riders Augusto Fernandez, Aleix Espargaro, and Lorenzo Savadori rounded out the bottom end of the timing sheets alongside Somkait Chantra.
