Álex Márquez says it’s “too early” to consider the possibility of a historic one-two MotoGP championship finish alongside brother Marc Márquez, despite both riders currently sitting at the top of the 2025 standings.
The brothers have been dominant so far, each taking race wins, swapping the title lead, and creating a clear gap over defending champion Francesco Bagnaia. Marc leads the standings with Álex trailing closely behind, while Bagnaia has fallen 61 points behind the younger Márquez.
“No, I think it’s still too early—14 rounds to go,” Álex said at the Aragon Test when asked if the Márquez brothers finishing first and second in the championship is a realistic possibility. “It is early to speak about it.”
While Álex acknowledges the strong start and his personal best points tally, he remains grounded. “We are not a big distance from the leader, and we have a good distance compared to Pecco. But we need to see. We don’t need to watch just Marc, but also Pecco.”
He admits that, “to be realistic, on paper, the logical thing is to finish third. But at the moment we are second. We are performing really good. In Silverstone, we were better than Marc and Pecco. Here [in Aragon], better than Pecco.”
Álex is aware of the development power of Ducati’s factory bikes—Marc, Bagnaia, and Di Giannantonio ride the newer GP25, while Álex is on the year-old GP24. He cautions that any technical breakthroughs in areas like aerodynamics could shift the balance.
“If they do in the future, or after this test, a step forward with the new aerodynamics they are trying, or something else, and we cannot fight, we just need to keep going in our championship and try to take good points in every race,” he explained.
Bagnaia, who has struggled for front-end feeling on the GP25, claimed some progress with larger brake discs at Aragon, finishing third.
With 14 rounds remaining, the Márquez brothers are leading an exciting and unpredictable title race, but Álex remains focused on consistency over predictions.
