Alex Marquez extends podium streak with strong second place at Portimao MotoGP

Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez continued his impressive late-season form with a solid second-place finish at the 2025 Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao, backing up his Sprint race victory from Saturday.

Starting from third on the grid, Marquez quickly moved past Pedro Acosta in the early laps to settle into second behind race leader Marco Bezzecchi. Despite keeping the Aprilia rider within sight early on, Marquez was unable to match Bezzecchi’s relentless pace as the race progressed.

While his bid for victory faded by mid-distance, Marquez remained composed under pressure from Acosta in the closing stages, fending off the KTM rider to secure another podium — his fifth of the season and third consecutive top-two finish.

“After the Sprint win yesterday, we knew it would be tough to repeat against Bezzecchi today,” Marquez said post-race. “But we managed the race well, kept a good rhythm, and finishing second feels really good heading into Valencia.”

With this result, Marquez strengthens his runner-up finish in the 2025 world championship and continues to build momentum for Gresini ahead of the 2026 season.
